School Dinners

Breakfast and Meals at Our School

At our school, we start the day off right by providing toast and cereals for breakfast to all children. Alongside this, fresh fruit is available free of charge, and throughout the day, water is accessible for all pupils.  Our Longsight kitchen takes great pride in serving freshly cooked meals, prepared to order daily for both Longsight and Withington pupils. We operate a carefully planned menu that rotates every four weeks, allowing pupils to select their preferred meal each morning during the registration session. Orders are collected and sent to the kitchen by 9.30am. For Withington pupils, meals are transported in hot boxes to ensure they arrive warm and delicious.

We are committed to offering a diverse menu of excellent quality meals that provide great value for money. The cost of a school meal is £2.30 per day (£11.50 per week), which needs to be paid at the school office at the beginning of the week. Our nutritional menus are designed to appeal to young people while ensuring they receive the essential foods they need to stay fit and healthy. You can rest assured knowing your child enjoys a hot meal every day, and our chef is always available to discuss food options for any children who may be particularly ‘choosy’ or have medical intolerances. We also provide vegetarian and vegan alternatives.

For those who prefer their own sandwiches, children are welcome to bring packed lunches. Please speak to a member of staff to arrange this. We encourage packed lunches to reflect a healthy lifestyle; a sandwich, some fruit, and yoghurts are all great options, but we kindly ask that fizzy drinks be left at home. Any fizzy drinks brought to school will be returned at the end of the day.

If pupils are off-site for an activity during lunchtime, we will prepare a ‘grab bag’ from the kitchen for them to take along.

All meals are enjoyed together in class groups, fostering a community atmosphere with pupils and staff sitting around the dining table in their classrooms. The food is delivered in a ‘hot trolley,’ and staff serve the meals, creating a family-style dining experience that promotes both learning and social interaction.

Please note that water and juice are consistently available throughout the day, including during lunchtimes, so we ask that pupils refrain from bringing their own drinks to school, particularly fizzy ones. If they do, these will be securely stored at the school office and returned to them at the end of the day.

As a nut-free school, we are dedicated to supporting both staff and children with allergies. If your child has any allergies, please ensure that you inform the school, and we can develop an allergy plan with you.
