Welcome to Bridgelea Primary School

Who We Are

At Bridgelea Primary School, we support 134 children across Key Stages 1 and 2. Many of our children have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) and need extra support with their social, emotional and mental health. We also provide education for children across Manchester who are at risk of exclusion or have been permanently excluded.

Every child who joins Bridgelea has their own strengths, interests and challenges. We understand that some children may find learning, communication, friendships or managing emotions difficult at times. Our role is to provide the right support, at the right time, so that every child can feel safe, successful and proud of who they are.

Our small class sizes, nurturing approach and highly skilled staff help us create an environment where children can grow in confidence, develop positive relationships and achieve their potential.

Our Vision

Understanding People

At Bridgelea, everything we do is guided by our vision: Understanding People.

We believe that children learn best when they feel understood, valued and supported. We work closely with children, families and professionals to help every child better understand themselves, understand others and understand the world around them.

By developing empathy, confidence and self-awareness alongside academic skills, we help children build the foundations for a successful future.

Our Values

Communication

We believe every child deserves to be heard and understood.

We help children develop their speech, language and communication skills so they can express themselves, build relationships and access learning successfully. Staff use visual supports, clear language and personalised strategies to make communication accessible for everyone.

Inclusion and Partnership

We know that children achieve best when school and home work together.

We build strong partnerships with families and work closely with outside agencies, including health, social care and mental health services, to make sure children receive the support they need. We celebrate difference and ensure every child feels welcomed, respected and included.

Safety and Wellbeing

Children learn best when they feel safe, secure and cared for.

Safeguarding and wellbeing are at the heart of everything we do. We help children develop strategies to manage emotions, build resilience and make safe choices both in school and beyond. Our nurturing environment supports the wellbeing of children, families and staff alike.

Aspiration and Independence

We want every child to believe in themselves and their future.

We encourage children to develop confidence, independence and the skills they need for life. Through high expectations, meaningful experiences and positive relationships, we help children become resilient learners who are ready for their next steps.

Our Approach to Learning

Our curriculum is designed around the needs of our children. It is flexible, ambitious and nurturing, helping children make progress both academically and personally.

Nurture at the Heart

As a National Nurturing School, we understand that children need strong relationships and a sense of belonging in order to thrive. We create a safe and supportive environment where children can develop emotionally whilst continuing to learn and succeed.

Communication First

Communication is at the centre of our curriculum. We use language-friendly approaches and specialist support to help children develop the skills they need to learn, build friendships and express themselves confidently.

Learning for Life

Alongside reading, writing and mathematics, we teach children important life skills such as teamwork, problem solving, self-management and resilience. We help children understand how they learn and encourage them to become reflective, independent thinkers.

Rights, Respect and Responsibility

As a Rights Respecting School, we teach children about fairness, respect and the rights of others. We help them become caring members of their community who understand the importance of inclusion, diversity and positive citizenship.

A Personalised Journey

Every child is unique. We carefully plan learning and support around individual strengths, needs and interests, ensuring that every child can experience success and make meaningful progress.

Our aim is simple: to help every child feel understood, achieve success and develop the confidence and skills they need to thrive in school, in their community and in later life.
