PE & Sports Premium
At Bridgelea Primary School, we believe every child should have the chance to lead a healthy and active life. A positive introduction to sport and physical activity fosters lifelong habits and aligns with the government’s vision for a world-class education system.
Physical activity provides numerous benefits for children’s health and mental wellbeing, including improved self-esteem and lower levels of anxiety. Ensuring pupils engage in sufficient daily exercise supports their development and benefits the school environment, leading to better behaviour and academic performance.
Our aim at Bridgelea is for all pupils to become physically literate, equipped with the knowledge and motivation for a healthy lifestyle and lifelong participation in physical activity and sport.
We focus on nurturing each child’s development, ensuring they gain not only academic knowledge but also essential life skills, including an understanding of the importance of leading an active lifestyle.
The government funding must be used to enhance the quality of physical education (PE) and sport at our school. The guidelines are as follows:
- Develop or enhance existing PE and sport activities.
- Build capacity within the school for lasting improvements.
We aim to see improvements in five key areas:
- Engaging all pupils in regular physical activity.
- Elevating the profile of PE and sport within the school.
- Enhancing staff confidence and skills in teaching PE and sport.
- Offering a broader range of sports and activities.
- Increasing participation in competitive sport.
The pupil premium is additional funding provided to schools in England to support disadvantaged pupils and help close the attainment gap. This funding, based on eligible pupils in years 1 to 6, should be directed towards sustainable improvements in PE and sport for the benefit of all pupils.
At Bridgelea, we plan to:
- Expand our PE and sports programmes.
- Ensure improvements benefit future pupils.
Our key priorities include:
- Raising swimming attainment to meet national curriculum requirements by Key Stage 2.
- Integrating physical activity into the school day.
- Introducing new sports to encourage participation.
- Providing staff with resources to improve PE and sport teaching.
Swimming Competency 2023-2024
