Maple Class


Welcome to Maple Class! The class teacher is Ms Hughes and the teaching assistants are Chelsea, Ella and Callum.


In our class:

  • Our Teachers and TAs are committed to encouraging and putting in place reading schedules every Monday to Friday. We have a great range of books for all our pupils and are always available when they want to access and read them. Our school books are also available to take to borrow home upon request and confirmed by the class teacher. we hope this will encourage and increase further reading knowledge for all our kids.


  • Fun, group P.E. sessions are once a week, lead by Reo (sports lead coach). This Term our PE day is Monday afternoon.
  • This half term we will be swimming every Wednesday. Please remember to send your child with a towel and swimming trunks.
  • Special Breakfast is every Friday morning where we have a great range of tasty and healthy breakfast foods. We also celebrate our pupils' achievements throughout the week and our rights-respecting stars with certificates.

Our Learning Autumn 1

ENGLISH: We will be doing 2 weeks narrative work using the book The Promise by Nicola Davies, 2 weeks of Informing using the text How to be an Anglo-Saxon and 2 weeks of Persuasion using the text You Wouldn't Want to be An Anglo-Saxon Peasant. In all our written work, we will also be using Colourful Semantics to help us improve our sentence structure.

ART- We are lucky to have our visiting art teacher Jo. She will be showing us how to draw and paint portraits. We will be looking at colouring mixing to make tints and tones of colour.

MATHS - We will be learning about the 4 operations starting with addition, then moving onto subtraction, multiplication and division.

HISTORY: The Anglo Saxons - We will be using primary and secondary sources to find out who they were and what they did, as well as learning when in History they were around.


DT: Come Dine with me! We will be working collaboratively to research a range of starters, mains and desserts according to set ingredients, making the meal and then evaluating and giving each meal a score.

COMPUTING: For the full Autumn term, we are going to be studying Coding.  We will develop our coding skills and then design our own coding programme to share with others to show what we have learned.

RSE: The theme for this half term is Being Me. In Maple, we will be finding out about body image and what it means to have a negative and positive body image.

RE: This half term, our focus will be on why some people believe God exists and what religions tell us when life gets hard.
