BIRCH (2KG) 2020 - 2021
Welcome to Birch class!
On this page, you will find information about our current Curriculum Vehicle and learning that we are doing this half term.
This half term our Curriculum Vehicle is:
English – we will be writing to inform, including writing letters, instructions and non-chronological reports.
Science – Animals, including humans. We will learn to describe the simple functions of the basic parts of the digestive system in humans, identify the different types of teeth in humans and their simple functions and to construct and interpret a variety of food chains, identifying producers, predators and prey.
Design & Technology – we will learn to design, make and evaluate bread.
Geography – We will learn about where our food comes from. We will go on a journey around the world, visiting farms in temperate, tropical and Mediterranean climates. We will learn about locational language used to describe locations around the world. We will also learn about climate conditions, how food is produced, traded and transported, and how fair trade organisers help farmers.
In Art, we will learn how to sculpt clay fruit bowls and print with food using at least four different colours.
In Computing, we will focus on e-safety as well as learn to collect, analyse, evaluate and present data and information using a selection of software, e.g. using a branching database (2Question)
In History, we will learn about food during the Stone Age to Iron Age, in particular learning about hunter-gatherers.
In Maths, we will focus on multiplication, division and fractions.
On our RE drop down day, we will learn about why some people think that life is a journey and what significant experiences mark this.
In RSHE, we will learn about Aspirations, Dreams and Goals. We will learn about the links between work and money, challenges that different people have overcome to be a success, and identify a dream or ambition that is important to us.
We will also continue to have the opportunity to work with Reo, our school PE teacher, each Friday, and we will continue to understand our Rights through everything we do. Special Breakfast happens each week on a Friday where we give our certificates to our Rights Respecting Superstars and find out which Duty bearers have earned an extra special mention too.
Birch Class will be reading lots of books about Food, including our current class book:
